Little Moira's Dress
Now that the financial issues have been settled, it's time to start making the dress.
For this, I’ve arranged for one of the Lumite Grand Wing’s carriages to serve as a workspace for dressmaking.
The accessories will have to wait until we return to Vardmoi, but at least we can make the dress here.
Since Marquis Vardmoi has already sent a response regarding the other dresses to the Trade Guild, I can begin.
"Hmm, as expected of a noble’s dress—there are a lot of detailed specifications. Besides Baron Oxitt, Marquis Vardmoi must have also spoken to the other families, and I wonder if they were encouraged to make more particular requests by him.”
The other girls' dresses seem to generally follow my design proposals, but they’ve made quite a few detailed requests.
There are especially a lot of specifications for accessories and frills, and they've also asked for intricate color variations.
It’s technically feasible, but… can they afford it?
"Alizée, if I were to make these dresses as requested, what would be an appropriate price?"
"Let me take a look at the design proposals… These are quite detailed. The most intricate one would be about 3.5 million Rubies, while the simplest one would be around 2.3 million Rubies."
"That’s with Spider Silk, right?"
"Of course. If you use Mana Spider Silk instead, the cost increases by about 1 million Rubies for each."
That’s beyond what most parents could pay.
I spent the whole day discussing with Alizée, noting down how various modifications would impact the cost.
I’ll send this information to Marquis Vardmoi so he can relay it to the respective noble families.
If he reviews it as well, there shouldn’t be any issues.
Next is Little Moira’s dress, which has a simple design and can be made quickly.
The base dress is shaped using fabric dyed in a slightly bluish black, with glass beads and frills attached using applied magic embroidery.
After consulting with Alizée, we decided to add a gradient from red to blue for the scarf as a special service.
Since an all-black dress might look too plain, I used silver fabric for the waist ribbon.
It’s made from ice-hued spider silk, but to the untrained eye, it just looks like a beautiful fabric.
This was another little service addition, agreed upon with Alizée and kept secret from the wearer.
Given the cost constraints, this is the most effort I can put in.
It might not sound like much, but if this were done by hand, it would take a team of people over ten days to complete.
Not to mention, there aren’t many tailors skilled in Magic Taoiloring techniques.
From Alizée’s perspective, this level of work is more than justified for the price.
Personally, it feels like I’m cutting corners.
Now that Little Moira’s dress is finished, it’s time for her to try it on.
Since it’s made with magic tailoring, small size differences will adjust themselves, but the real concern is whether she likes it.
For the record, Little Bern is waiting in another room.
She won’t see the dress until the day of the tea party.
"Wow… What a beautiful dress."
"You look wonderful, Moira."
"Truly. It suits you perfectly."
"Yes, thank you very much, Lady Lily."
"Oh, I only tailored it to your specifications. There shouldn’t be any issues, but does anything feel too tight?"
"It fits perfectly. I know you took my measurements before making it, but is it really possible to make a dress fit this precisely?"
"That’s the magic of enchanted tailoring. There are quite a few tricks behind it."
"I see… I’d love to learn more about magic tailoring."
After the fitting, Little Moira changed back into her regular clothes, and Little Bern rejoined us.
I gave them a brief lesson on magic tailoring, and Little Bern, who already knew a bit, helped teach Little Moira.
It would be great if Little Moira decided to pursue magic tailoring someday.
What do you think about this chapter?
One dress done, and many more dresses to go. ?
Thanks for the treat.
