Arrival at the Count Galette's Territory
Two days after the meeting with Marquis Vardmoi, we departed from Vardmoi via bird courier and took another two days to reach Count Galette's territory.
The members of our group included myself, Plum, Talat, and three Kiblinki Saltas.
From Marquis Vardmoi’s house, 24 soldiers, including the officer Mr. Gyan, accompanied us.
Additionally, Young lady Conniette and five of her attendants joined the group.
Honestly, it’s undeniable that we lack sufficient numbers, but just having Talat with us makes up for it.
The soldiers from Marquis Vardmoi's house aren’t letting their guard down, but they don’t expect any serious combat.
That’s because I’ll step in before it comes to that.
That’s the plan, and it’s also the best way to avoid unnecessary injuries.
When we arrived at Galette County, the main gate of the Trade Guild was already fortified with soldiers.
Looking from above, there were guards posted at the back entrance as well.
The Trade Guild was completely isolated.
Where are we supposed to land?
The landing target that Mr. Gyan, leading the group, chose was the area in front of the Adventurers' Guild.
There’s hardly anyone there, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
With such a large group of birds flying in, any passersby would naturally clear the area.
As expected, we landed without any issues.
As everyone dismounted from the bird courier and prepared their equipment, guards streamed out from the Adventurers' Guild and surrounded us.
Well, I suppose that’s natural when fully armed soldiers land in front of the Adventurers' Guild and start preparing their gear.
Is the man walking through the guards the guild master?
“Who are you?! Do you realize this is Count Galette’s territory?!”
The Guildmaster yelled, and the guards pointed their spears at us, but none of Marquis Vardmoi’s soldiers reacted.
They silently adjusted their gear and raised their flag.
“That flag... Is that Marquis Vardmoi's?!”
“Indeed. We are the direct forces of Marquis Vardmoi. We have no intention of provoking the Adventurers' Guild. We landed here because the area around the Trade Guild, where we were originally supposed to land, was surrounded by what appears to be Count Galette's forces. We apologize for this breach of etiquette.”
“U-understood. Guards, lower your spears!”
At the Guildmaster’s order, the guards pointed their spears skyward instead of at us.
At least it seemed we had successfully conveyed that we didn’t intend to fight the Adventurers' Guild.
“So, why has Marquis Vardmoi sent troops to Galette County?”
“We received reports that the Count Galette’s forces unjustly occupied the Connie trees owned by Marquis Vardmoi. We have come to reclaim them.”
“Hmm... So it’s about that.”
Apparently, even the Adventurers' Guild here in Galette County was aware of the situation.
I wish they’d let us through quickly.
“However, this is Count Galette’s territory. If Marquis Vardmoi intervenes here, the McFarlane family won’t stay silent. Are you prepared for that?”
“When the Connie trees were purchased, we sought permission from the McFarlane family and received a response of ‘Do as you please.’ I trust Duke McFarlane will honor that agreement.”
That’s a convenient way to phrase it.
Well, we didn’t have the luxury of checking back with the McFarlane family this time.
“I understand the situation. The Adventurers' Guild will not take sides in this matter. Is that acceptable?”
“That’s helpful. Then could you clear the way for us?”
“Understood. Make way!”
The guards who had surrounded us stepped aside, opening a path.
Mr. Gyan bowed once, took command at the front of the soldiers, and began moving forward.
We need to follow them without delay.
Our first task is to subdue the forces surrounding the Trade Guild.
What do you think about this chapter?
Hmmm, I think this will be done quickly. Thanks for the treat.
