Side Story: A Girl’s Letter
The very first thing that comes to mind when I think back on my early childhood is being loaded into a carriage by kidnappers and taken somewhere far away.
My parents were killed right in front of my eyes.
The bandits who appeared in the village seemed to have been guided by someone, as I saw when I was being thrown into the carriage that they attacked only my house.
I wanted to cry. I couldn’t forgive them. I wanted to kill them.
I fell into despair and hated the entire world.
However, that is not how things turned out. At that time, I was saved by a certain person.
That was the moment I met the one who would become my new father.
Suddenly, the roof of the carriage exploded upward, and that person leapt inside, scooping me up and flying into the sky.
I think he was screaming in a pathetic way, yet somehow still smiling. I only recently realized that it was to keep me from feeling afraid.
And in that person’s arms, for some strange reason, I felt safe and fell asleep.
Afterward, I never asked what became of those kidnappers.
Even after coming to the orphanage, I’m sure things remained difficult.
My big sister told me it was unheard of for someone to be kidnapped within a month of arriving.
I was very anxious… but even so, I wasn’t afraid. Just like back then, I believed he would surely come for me.
And after that, many things happened.
Explosions, attacks, making friends… promising to marry Otousama…
Even now, those memories from that time are precious treasures to me.
How have you been, Otousama?
I, Riko, became a Saintess today.
