The Lady’s Glad Tidings — Budding of New Life and the Village in Autumn
Autumn, rich with harvest, had once again come to Akio’s town.
The branches of the Tree of Life turned golden, while in the fields the forest hens tended by Ayane’s livestock team were laying eggs in plenty. The mountain goats gave a steady supply of milk, the forest boars built up their strength for spring tilling, and from Dolgan’s ironworks good steel was born—transformed by Akio and Alto’s hands into new farm tools and household goods that supported daily life. From Lady Celestina’s schoolhouse came the ceaseless laughter of children, and under Lady Leonora’s guidance the martial training rang with vigor.

And yet, the greatest change of all had come upon Akio’s first wife, Sylvia.

By the time a full season had passed since that “intense week,” Sylvia had begun to sense the stirring of new life within her. At first it was only slight changes in her body—an unfamiliar fatigue, a sudden sensitivity to smells. But more than anything, her keen awareness as a forest healer unmistakably caught the rising flow of life inside her.

(Could it be… truly… Akio’s… our child…?)

In all her long years as an Elf, never had her heart trembled like this, brimming with love and tenderness. For weeks she kept the certainty to herself, pondering when and how she should tell Akio.

One night, under the moonlight, in the “nest of love” of the central hall, she and Akio were sharing their usual peaceful time. As Akio spoke with earnest passion about the final adjustments to the nearly completed “Forest’s Blessing Purification System,” Sylvia quietly took his hand, her gaze serious yet immeasurably gentle.

“Akio… there is something important I must tell you.”

Sensing the gravity of her tone, Akio fell silent, waiting for her words. Sylvia guided his hand gently to her belly, laying it there with care. Her eyes shimmered as she spoke in a trembling voice:

“Here… a new life of ours… has begun to grow. Akio… the fruit of our love…”

Akio was struck speechless. From the hand pressed against Sylvia’s stomach, he could not yet truly feel it—but he could sense the warmth of a life surely there, and the depth of Sylvia’s love pierced his very being.

“… Sylvia… is it true? Our… child…?”

His voice, too, shook with joy and awe. Sylvia, tears in her eyes, gave a radiant smile and nodded deeply.

“Yes, Akio. It is only the faintest presence yet… but I feel it clearly. Our beloved child is growing within me.”

Akio embraced her tightly, yet with the utmost gentleness, as if she were something fragile and precious. Overwhelming affection and gratitude welled in his heart. That in this other world, he could be granted a child with the wife he loved—what greater miracle could there be?

“Thank you, Sylvia… thank you…!”

The two clung to one another, weeping in the wonder of that joy. Elves, it was said, bore children over a longer span than humans—perhaps a year to a year and a half. For over a year to come, Sylvia would nurture this small life. It was a hope that shone not only for Akio, but for the entire village.

The glad news was shared the next day with Ayane and the other wives, and the whole family was wrapped in joy. Ayane, in tears, declared:
“Sylvia-sama, congratulations! As an aunt, I’ll do everything I can to help!”

Kina shouted in delight, “Way to go, Lady! If it’s Hubby’s kid, it’s bound to be a real lively one!”

Celestina and Leonora too offered heartfelt blessings, while earnestly urging Sylvia to take care of herself.

Sylvia’s pregnancy brought fresh energy to the town’s “crafting.”
The papermaking project, advanced by Ayane with Sylvia’s guidance, now produced strong, white sheets steadily. Celestina began writing children’s books and notes on child-rearing for the baby to come. Dolgan and Akio turned their minds to designing a safe, comfortable nursery and special baby goods—such as a cradle and smooth wooden toys.

Meanwhile, the “Forest’s Blessing Purification System” neared its final stage. Once operational, it would raise the town’s hygiene to new heights, ensuring safety and comfort for mother and child alike.

Thus, in Akio’s town, a new and most precious light of life was beginning to shine. It was the finest gift, the fruit of their devotion and love. Blessed by family and villagers alike, the hope of the future grew quietly, yet powerfully, within Sylvia’s womb.
