Silver Bonds and a New Wish
Several days had passed since Ayane’s special twentieth birthday, and a gentle calm had once again settled over Akio’s town. The soft light of early winter shone on the forest trees lightly dusted with snow, while warm smoke rose from the hearth of the central hall.
That afternoon, Akio, Sylvia, and their son Ars were enjoying a relaxed moment in the sunlit parlor of the central hall. Ars, nearing his first birthday, had inherited his father’s black hair and his mother’s eyes that glimmered with a hidden silver light. He was pulling himself up to stand, babbling meaningless words, and showing remarkable growth with each passing day.
“Ars, look, it’s Daddy~! Up we go~!”
When Akio lifted Ars high, the boy let out delighted giggles. That innocent smile was Akio’s greatest source of comfort. Sylvia, sipping herbal tea beside them, watched the pair with a loving expression.
“He really has your strength, Akio. I hope he grows up to be as kind and dependable as you.”
“Yeah. And I hope he inherits your wisdom and gentleness, Sylvia.”
Akio placed Ars on Sylvia’s lap. The boy reached out with tiny hands toward his mother’s silver hair, and Sylvia gently caught them.
Between the three of them flowed a deep, unspoken love and a tranquil moment in time. For Sylvia, busy as the town’s herbalist and lady of the house, and for Akio, these moments spent as a family of three were an irreplaceable treasure. They celebrated each milestone in Ars’s growth, shared dreams for the future, and quietly affirmed one another’s presence, sharing a steady, undeniable warmth.
As dinner time approached and Ars began to yawn adorably, Sylvia gently carried him off to put him to sleep. Left alone, Akio gazed at the slowly shifting colors of the sky outside the window, reminiscing about his first meeting with Sylvia and the journey they had shared. She was the first woman in this world to whom Akio had opened his heart and entrusted everything. His primary wife, his comrade-in-arms, and his most beloved partner.
That night, after confirming Ars was sleeping soundly, Sylvia entered Akio’s bedroom. The soft glow of the lamp illuminated her beautiful silver hair and the faint flush on her pale skin.
“Akio…”
Sylvia called his name in a voice tinged with heat. Akio gently pulled her close.
“Sylvia… today, spending time with you and Ars was truly wonderful.”
“Yes. He is our irreplaceable treasure… And Akio, lately I’ve been thinking strongly that I want… another child with you.”
Sylvia buried her face in Akio’s chest as she confessed her hidden desire. Those words resonated deeply with Akio as well. As the town grew and their family expanded, the wish to welcome another new life with Sylvia had naturally taken root in his heart.
“I feel the same, Sylvia. If it’s a child with you, I’d want as many as possible.”
At Akio’s words, Sylvia looked up, her eyes moist as she gazed at him. Their eyes locked, and words were no longer needed.
That night, the two of them sought each other with an intensity befitting the word “passionate.” It was more than mere physical union. Having walked together for years, overcome countless hardships, and come to know each other completely, their connection was a resonance from the depths of their souls—a sacred rite that cherished life itself and sought to nurture new life. Sylvia’s lithe body fully embraced Akio’s love, and Akio, in turn, poured his affection into enveloping her entirely.
Hot breaths, entwined fingers, and voices calling each other’s names. It was a deep, rich exchange of love, like aged wine, distinct from the fresh, sweet night he had shared with Ayane. They reaffirmed each other’s existence, deepened their love, and entrusted their wish for a new family member to that night’s act.
In the eventual silence, the two drifted into peaceful sleep, feeling each other’s warmth. Sylvia’s silver hair swayed gently against Akio’s chest.
In Akio’s town, the seed of another new life may have been planted. The answer was known only to the gods, but their hearts were filled with certain hope and fulfillment.
